  • The multi-million pound mansions of footballers and their other halves are the envy of most, but apparently no-one wants to buy them.Cheshire’s Golden Triangle is home to several of the luxury homes, snapped up by footballers for northern Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool. But the sportsmen – including Cristiano Ronaldo, Emile Heskey and Wes Brown – struggle to sell on the top properties when they transfer. The area around Wilmslow, Knutsford, Prestbury and Alderley Edge boasts five of the 10 most expensive streets in the North West. But while the exclusivity is part of the lure for the big earning and big spending footballers, it can throw a spanner in the works when they try to sell up.

As a result, owners are forced to slashing price in a desperate bid to flog the properties. One couple struggling to sell up is former Man United player Wes Brown, 35, and his wife Leanne Wassell.
They put their Prestbury mansion – which boasts Wayne Rooney for a neighbour – on the market in July 2010 when Brown moved to Sunderland. See their pictures and mansions after the cut.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said he understood between 142 and 150 people were on board and feared dead.
'The cause is at present unknown,' he told reporters.
A spokesman for the DGAC aviation authority said the airplane crashed near the town of Barcelonnette about 100 km (65 miles) north of the French Riviera city of Nice.
German media reports say there is a wide field of debris visible.
According to flight data from FlightAware 24, at 09.30 UTC (10.30 GMT) the aircraft was cruising at 38,000 feet at 463 knots.
It started losing altitude to 37,975 by 10.31am with the speed reportedly increasing to 477kts. But 10.41am, the last reported radar returns had the aircraft descending at 6,800 feet at 378kts.

In ten minutes the aircraft plunged 31,200 feet in just ten minutes.
Lufthansa's Germanwings unit said it was as yet unable to verify reports of the crash.
The company tweeted: 'We have recently become aware of media reports speculating on an incident though we still do not have any own confirmed information.'
The crashed A320 is 24 years old and has been with the parent Lufthansa group since 1991, according to online database airfleets.net.

Meet the man who posted himself from London to Australia in a wooden BOX

  • .Reg Spiers posted himself from London to Perth in a wooden crate in 1964
  • .He survived the 63-hour journey via Paris, Bombay and Singapore
  • .Took with him a bottle of fruit juice, two tins of spaghetti, a packet of biscuits, a bar of chocolate and a tube of fruit gums
  • .Spiers went on to travel the world with his lover, assuming false identities and smuggling narcotics for international drug syndicates
  • .He was sentenced to death in Sri Lanka in 1984 for plot to smuggle heroin
  • .He had his conviction overturned and was extradited back to Australia
  • .Now 73, Spiers lives in Adelaide with his partner and two dogs

  • When Australian Reg Spiers found himself penniless in London without enough money for a plane ticket home to Adelaide, he decided to post himself back in a wooden box.
It was 1964, and the 22-year-old champion javelin thrower was in Britain, desperate to get back to Australia for his daughter's birthday and to see his wife.
He showed up out of the blue at the East London flat of his close friend – English javelin thrower John McSorley – and presented him with his problem.
Too impatient to work and save up the money for a plane ticket, together Spiers and McSorley hatched a harebrained scheme to build a timber box and send Spiers back to his home country via air freight.

  • What followed was a nightmarish 63-hour journey across three continents in which he was delayed in fog for 24 hours, dropped from a forklift and almost suffered dehydration after being left on a scorching tarmac in Bombay, India.
But Spiers survived, and went on to live an extraordinary life in which he travelled the world with his lover, assumed false identities and smuggled narcotics for international drug syndicates.
His sensational life has been documented in a book by McSorley's wife and son, Julie and Marcus McSorley, See the picture blow,
